- 1). Locate the tire size on the sidewall of the tire, and write it down. The size will appear as a series of numbers, letters and slashes---for example, "225/60R16." You may see characters before and after these numbers, but this portion indicates the size of the tire.
- 2). Decode the section width and aspect ratio from the tire size. The first three digits represent the section width in millimeters. In the example above, the section width is 225 mm. The two digits following the slash represent the aspect ratio. In the example size, the aspect is 60.
- 3). Calculate the section height of the tire using the width and aspect ratio. The aspect ratio defines the height of the tire as a percentage of the width. In the example, the height of the tire will be 60 percent of the width of 225 mm.
