It can be difficult to know how far is too far when it comes to expression. In many areas of the world, these days, litigation has become an option to clear one's good name, so to speak, when unsubstantiated accusations or attacks are made. Furthermore, media such as video games, movies, and music have been examined for their role in shaping young minds.
While there are genetic influences, to be certain, on various types of behavior, arguments will still get made against what is considered entertainment within society. Typically parents are afforded the right to choose what their children are exposed to, and most do not take issue with that. Censorship, however, is another issue entirely in the minds of some, and the debate can get quite polarized.
There are few who can ignore the fact that major media outlets do influence society. What is considered popular or exceptional has a lot to do with who is talking about or exhibiting it. This power can be extremely potent, as trends may spread like wildfire throughout a country or possibly the world almost overnight.
Therefore the question becomes how responsible those media outlets, or the government which allows them to continue operating, is for what anyone sees. It is furthermore compounded by questioning just how much this influence really affects groups like children and young adults. This is often juxtaposed with the influences of parents, who are tasked with raising the generation in question.
Then there are more antiquated forms of expression such as dancing or painting and so on. These forms of art have been around for centuries, and some forms, like plays and novels, have repeatedly come under fire at various times for their more provocative elements. In the end, there is little if anything that can not be criticized by one group or another.
Arts effect on society can be viewed as detrimental, but it may also be extremely positive as well. Many great people have found inspiration one way or another in viewing or experiencing the creative expression of others. In the end the best course of action may be to try and understand the message before judging it, and understand that merit may be something you do not find immediately in all things. You are unlikely to find a lack of conversation regarding ideas of censorship, and so as with the message of the material in question, you might pay close attention to what is said rather than how.
