How to E-file to Oregon & the IRS

    • 1). Call the Internal Revenue Service at 1-866-704-7388 to request a personal identification number for signing your electronic tax forms. Provide your name, social security number and the adjusted gross income from the prior tax year. The number will be given to you over the phone.

    • 2). Select an online or electronic tax filing service. A tax preparer my also e-file for you if preferred. Follow the instructions for each tax preparation site. You will be prompted to create an account or register so that you can return to complete incomplete tax returns when necessary.

    • 3). Enter the employer, wage and tax information listed on your W-2 or 1099 when prompted by the software. You will be asked to enter your federal tax information first and state information second. The software will automatically calculate the applicable taxes. Add deductions and investment income if any when prompted.

    • 4). Enter your bank account and bank routing number to receive refunds by direct deposit. If a taxes are owed, you may have the taxes deducted from your bank account or have to pay by credit card. Enter your credit card information if you desire to make payments this way.

    • 5). Review the forms again and then sign with your federal PIN and submit the forms. A confirmation should arrive either in your tax filer account or email from both the Internal Revenue Service and the Oregon Department of Revenue.

    • 6). Print the form for your records.
