Blogging has been hip since the mid 2000's, with everybody aware that you should be doing it.
Blogging, that is.
You should have a blog, you should post to it daily, and then, somehow, people will discover you, come running, eager to read your every post.
But somewhere between the third and fourth week the would-be blogger realizes that nobody has come to their site, and they give up, stumped.
What went wrong? This article will examine why you should blog, who should blog, and how you should blog.
Short and simple, right? First off, the only reason you should be blogging is because you have something to say.
If you have no opinions, if you have nothing to say, than endless posts about your pets and what you had for lunch will do little to attract an audience (unless you have a stunning voice).
So you need to have something you're passionate about.
Books, cars, sports, technology, crime, politics, the weather, fishing, anything.
You simply need to have passion, and allow that passion to shine through.
One you've figured out what you want to blog about, then start.
But realize that nobody will discover you unless people know you're out there.
Toward that end you should visit blogs that are similar to yours, and participate in the comment conversations going on.
Be genuine, invested in the conversation and have fun.
People will notice you, grow curious, and come visit your blog.
This takes time, from months to even years, but again, your passion should keep you on track.
No passion, no long term drive.
Finally, try and show some personality.
If you just report your thoughts in a straight forward, dry and boring manner, nobody will want to read your stuff.
Because people will come to your blog for your voice, your personality, not what you think about any given subject.
They will only care about your opinions if they care about you, and the way to make them care about you is to be smart, funny, interesting, opinionated, passionate.
So there you go.
If you want to blog, it's because you are driven by a passion to get your thoughts and opinions out there, not because you simply want an audience.
Then, once you get the ball rolling, go find similar communities and participate.
The results will be much more rewarding.
