- Epilepsy is a neurological disorder. People with epilepsy are not dangerous or possessed. They have a serious medical condition.
- People with epilepsy are not handicapped, and epilepsy is not a mental illness. The neurons in their brain malfunction, but this does not mean they are not intelligent.
- It is not possible to swallow your tongue. During a seizure, the tongue can block the airway. Someone having a seizure should be turned on her side to keep this from happening.
- There is no reason to hold someone down. Be sure the area around the person who is seizing is cleared out. This will keep them from hitting objects during a seizure.
- Epilepsy cannot be cured, but medication can help control the seizures.
