- 1). Right-click an empty area of the Desktop to open a drop-down context menu. Select "New" and then "Shortcut."
- 2). Click an empty portion of the text entry box and enter the text "%windir%\System32\rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState" without quotes as the command to run. Click "Next."
- 3). Enter a name for your shortcut, such as "Standby," and click "Finish."
- 4). Double-click your desktop shortcut to put the system into standby mode.
