How to Test & Keep Mechanics Tools

    • 1). Choose the type of mechanic's tool that you want to test and purchase it. For instance, you could get a set of wrenches, a pneumatic lug wrench or even an oil filter wrench.

    • 2). Use the tool. If you're testing a lug wrench then use it to loosen and tighten the lugs on a wheel of your car. If you're using a set of wrenches then use them to take off properly sized bolts in your car. If the tool breaks, is too big or small or they just don't function properly then chances are the tool you're using isn't right for your collection.

    • 3). Place the tool in a safe, dry place. All tools, whether hand tools or power tools, should be cleaned and dried before they're put away in a safe place like a tool drawer inside a garage or basement. Dankness can rust tools and rot rubber. Once you find a tool that works for you take care of it properly so it will last for a long time.
