As per the time many long followed traditions in our society has lost their popularity followed by new traditions. Same is the case for the people living in joint families. Living in joint families in our society has a long tradition of our Indian culture. In modern days also there are still large no of people who gives preference to joint families over nuclear families.
Yeah! It is true, but not always. Isn't it?
Success of joint families depends on the understanding between the members of the family. It is always difficult for persons in joint family to adapt and follow modern values because of the fact of more minds and many generations have to undergo transitions to accept the changes brought by new generation.
Joint Families in Hindu religion has been considered as the sign of love, affection, caring among the family members. There is always a presence of a leader who guides the members and maintains a control over the whole family. Kids living in joint family enjoy the company of their cousins and grow in a combined environment of making adjustments, sharing etc. People living in joint families are sometimes bound to restrictions which avoid them from taking strong decisions for their growth and they are forced to think emotionally rather than logically in their life.
On the other side is nuclear family in which members of a family are gifted with much more freedom to adapt new changes in lifestyle and thinking. There are also some pros and cons for nuclear families also as of joint families. In nuclear family there are less chances of conflict in family and family members enjoy more freedom for making decisions rather than in joint family.
Like a coin has two sides, same is with cons of nuclear family, as persons in nuclear families are more prone to dearth of relatives at the time of emergency or financial crisis. The cause of increasing dominance of nuclear families is lack of bonding and interaction among the members of the same family due to increasing trend of western culture in our society.
One important factor which makes joint families more preferable over nuclear families is the support provided at the time of crisis in one's life. It provides security to all its members, especially elders, kids, unemployed member, widows as well as to physically & mentally handicapped persons of the family.
Like everything in this world joint & nuclear families have their own pros and cons. So it depends on one's own thinking and the most importantly the circumstances in which one decides to live either in joint or nuclear family for the sake of him and his/her family members.
