Turntables Are Just as Popular as Ever

Turntables have come full circle and are no longer a memory from the past. For those of you who can remember the 80s you certainly remember record players. I remember purchasing my first stereo system at Montgomery Ward in 1988. It came complete with a cassette deck, AM/FM radio and record player. One of my favorite hobbies back then was to routinely go to the record shop and buy four or five vinyl records at a time. Among my favorites back then were Van Halen, Rush and Duran Duran.

And who can forget going to clubs at night listening to music played on vinyl. If and when I heard a song I liked, I would find out the name of it and then head out to the record store the very next afternoon and purchase it. I remember having two milk crates full of albums. Back then as I was spending all my money and building up my collection, I never imagined that vinyl records would disappear to make way for CDs.

As time goes on we constantly see changes in the way we watch movies and listen to music. Music has continually evolved from eight track cartridges all the way to the current MP3 format. But as the music industry has appeared to come full circle, we suddenly see turntables as part of the future. Turntables can connect to our PCs via USB. What's cool about this is if you happen to still own some vinyl records from the past, you can now transfer those songs to your computer very easily if you own a USB turntable.

For us who used to swear by vinyl records, there has always been this thought that CD audio never quite lived up to the sound of vinyl music. Who can forget playing records back then and hearing that slight popping or static noise in the background? To most of us that will simply part of the amazing experience of owning a turntable that played vinyl records.

Part of the pleasure of using record players was taking the needle and trying to accurately place it on the track you want to hear. But if you played records all the time, you probably got real seasoned at working the needle. How many of us could ever forget the sound the record would make if we didn't lift the needle from the record correctly?
