How to Change the Oil on an Acura Ti

    • 1). Drive the front wheels of your Acura Ti onto a set of ramps, or use a jack and place the car on jack stands. Turn off the engine.

    • 2). Open the hood, locate the oil fill cap and remove it.

    • 3). Slide an oil container pan underneath the Acura's engine oil pan. Remove the oil drain plug by twisting it counterclockwise using the socket or pliers. Set the plug aside and allow the old oil to drain into the pan.

    • 4). Wipe the area around the drain hole with a shop rag. Hold the plug and new gasket against the hole. Turn the plug counterclockwise until you feel it click into place. Tighten the plug by turning it clockwise by hand. Turn the plug a half-turn using the socket or wrench. Do not overtighten the plug.

    • 5). Place the drain pan underneath the oil filter. Remove the filter and gasket with the oil filter wrench. Rub a light film of oil onto the new gasket and install the filter by hand. Turn it clockwise to tighten.

    • 6). Pour new oil into the engine and replace the oil fill cap; check the oil level with the dipstick. The dipstick will register above the full mark because oil has not entered the filter yet. Start the engine and back off the ramps or lower the car.

    • 7). Turn off the engine and recheck the oil level. Take the old oil to an authorized disposal facility. Most service stations, quick lubes and repair facilities will accept oil free of charge.
