Signs & Symptoms of Peritoneal Tuberculosis

    • Peritoneal tuberculosis is a type of lung disease that can also affect other parts of the body. Chest X-rays are often needed to properly diagnosis tuberculosis. According to the TB Alert website (tbalert.org), all forms of tuberculosis are curable with rare instances of complications. However, a person can die if he does not receive treatment.

    Fever

    • According to the TB Alert, up to 80 percent of tuberculosis patients have a fever. A fever is the body's way of responding to an infection. People with TB may have a constant or persistent fever with body aches and chills.

    Bloody Cough

    • One of the major symptoms of peritoneal tuberculosis is a blood-streaked cough. The cough can be so severe that a person will consistently cough up blood. This can cause dizziness and make it difficult to sleep. If you ever notice this symptom, medical attention is needed. Have someone take you to the ER for help.

    Enlarged Lymph nodes

    • Enlarged lymph nodes in the neck and groin are also a sign of tuberculosis. You will notice the lymph nodes are swollen and painful to the touch. Complications such as a rupture or abscess can cause infection.

    Back Pain

    • Another sign of tuberculosis is severe back pain. The pain is a throbbing or stabbing pain in the back that can cause a person to feel fatigue. The disease can affect the spine, ankle and hip, along with other parts of the body.

    Stomach Pain

    • Stomach pain followed by severe diarrhea along with abdominal swelling and rapid weight loss is another sign of TB. Severe complications are bowel obstructions. An obstruction is the result of impacted fecal matter in the colon. This can cause part of the bowel to die off.

Chest Pain and Shortness of Breath

    • According to the TB Alert, another sign of tuberculosis is chest pain. Chest pain usually feels like stabbing sharp pains. A person may also experience shortness of breath at the same time. A horse voice can also result from pain and difficulty breathing.

    Ulcers

    • Ulcer on the skin, especially the face is a sign of TB. The ulcers can be painful and may ooze with puss. Without proper treatment these ulcers can lead to an infection.
