- 1). Secure the device to be tested to the step stools using duct tape. This secures the device from toppling over when the hose is used. The stools' tops should cover as little of the device's surface area as possible.
- 2). Saturate the device using the garden hose for at least one minute. Completely cover all sides of the device with water, including the top and bottom. Turn off the hose.
- 3). Remove any excess water from the device using the towel. Allow the unit to air dry completely. Open the inside of the device and check for water.
- 4). If there is no water inside, determine whether the device still functions. Wearing rubber gloves, plug the device into a socket if needed, and turn it on.
- 5). If the device continues to function and no water can be found inside its casing, the device has successfully passed the ingress test.
