My 93-year-old maternal grandmother passed away on August 21, 2009 in her home. Her funeral was held on August 27, 2009. After her funeral, family and friends gathered at my sister's house for lunch and visiting. Later that evening, only a few people stayed on. There were six of us gathered around the counter and my mother's first cousin, who had been very close to my grandma, pulled out a special bottle of wine.
She said we needed to put it in clean wine glasses so as not to taint the taste. My sister brought six matching wine glasses back to the counter and Beverly (cousin) poured the wine into each glass. My brother-in-law had been watching sports in another room and came in and asked for a glass of wine. He went back to the other room and never took the wine.
That glass was sitting out in the middle of the counter with wine in it. As we toasted to my grandma, who loved to have her daily glass of wine, the wine glass on the counter shattered. There were six witnesses and no one touched the glass, nor was it knocked over (there were other glasses on the counter as well). It literally shattered into tiny pieces. We are all pretty sensible people and could not come up with a reasonable explanation for this occurrence. I think everyone believed it had something to do with Grandma.
