The Truth About How To Be Happy

The truth is happiness is life or death. Yet, happiness is such a personal topic it is impossible to have a real conversation about it unless you are talking to a trained professional behind four closed walls with a confidentiality agreement.

We live in a world where we are protected from meaningful emotional experiences by being polite. While technological advances like cellular telephones and e mail have given us more opportunities to communicate with each other, it is harder to really connect to people.

We are taught etiquette demands the "How are you?" "I am good", plastic exchange. People lie about their happiness and fake their happiness all day every day.

We are bombarded by messages in media and advertising that promise happiness by rewarding ourselves with soft drinks, cheeseburgers, jewelry, cars, cosmetics, clothes - we see something, we seek it, we obtain it, we enjoy it, but then the allure fades as soon as our attention is stolen by the next big thing.

The truth about how to be happy is that happiness doesn't come from Chanel lipstick or Gucci shades, it comes from the awareness that we are ok just as we are and making the decision to be happy every moment.

You need to feel empowered to take leadership of your happiness. If you wait around for someone else or something else to make you happy, you will be left empty, unfulfilled and discontent. Nobody and nothing external to your self can make you happy forever. Your happiness is your responsibility. You have the ability to choose how to respond to everything that happens to you.
