- 1). Register your business name as a trademark in order to nationally register your business name. This will protect your business name nationally. You will need to register through the United States Patents and Trademark Office. You will need to search the database in order to determine that your business name is available and not already being used. Use the link in the resources box below to search your business name. Choose a business name that is not in the database already.
- 2). Choose whether you want to register just your business name, or your business name and your logo. You can do both at the same time, which can be convenient if you already have your business logo ready to use. Having your business name and your logo nationally registered will keep them both secure and protected. If you do not have your logo yet you can wait until you do and fill out a separate form for it.
- 3). The United States Patents and Trademarks Office online has a Trademark Electronic Application System (TEAS) that you can use to file your application for registering your business name as a trademark. It can all be completed online. Choose the appropriate form from the website link to the Trademark Electronic Application System (TEAS), which in this case is the Trademark/Servicemark Application, Principal Register.
