Jack's Flashback - Jack Loses Track of Time
Angelo is asleep in a hospital bed. Jack looks at some monitors and Gabriela comes in. She asks how her father is. Jack says his counts aren't where he'd like them to be. She complains that he's been testing for over a month and he explains that he's thorough."I have a confession to make. I don't believe in miracles," Gabriela says. Jack is not too sure about them either.
"I bet your wife feels differently. She's the woman you fixed, isn't she?"
Jack says yes and Gabriela says, "She must be a very special person to let you work until 4:30 in the morning."
Jack looks at his watch. "I completely lost track of-I've got to-Will you excuse me?"
At home, Sarah lies in bed awake as Jack walks in. "Hey, how is he?" she asks.
He says about the same and then apologizes for being so late. She gets out of bed and says, "That's the price of being a miracle worker."
He asks where she's going and she says she's going to the gym and then she has papers to grade.
Jack gets into bed and she sits on the bed near him. "I didn't want to say anything until I knew either way," she says, "but, um, I was late so I got a pregnancy test."
Jack looks concerned and sits up. "Don't worry," she says. "It's negative."
"Do you want to talk about it?" he asks.
"What's to talk about?"
"Sarah, I-"
"See you later, Jack."
Where's Michael Headed?
Locke finds a footprint and thinks that it's probably Michael's but can't be sure.Kate finds another and Locke declares it a trail. Kate asks for a gun and Jack tells her she's not coming.
He says she needs to stay behind and take care of the button. They argue and argue some more. Sawyer pulls the slide on his gun. "Let's go," Jack says and walks away. Sawyer gives Kate an apologetic look and follows Jack.
Sawyer asks Jack what Kate did to him and he says nothing. "Right," Sawyer says, "you're yelling at her because she wanted to help get Mike back makes a lot of sense."
"Why don't you go back and see if I hurt her feelings?" Jack says.
"I'm just saying," Sawyer says.
Jack says, "Yeah, I know. You love her."
Sawyer stops. "What'd you say?"
Locke looks around and Jack asks what's up. Locke asks Sawyer if any of this looks familiar from when he came back from the other camp with Ana-Lucia.
"Well, yeah," Sawyer says, "there's my favorite leaf. How could I forget this place?"
Locke says, "When you came across the island, what side was the ocean on?" Sawyer points and Locke says, "You came from the east. Michael is heading north."
Jack says to Sawyer, "He's not going back the way you came from. He's heading somewhere else."
Sun vs. Michael
Kate gets Hurley to agree to cover the button at the hatch. Jin and Sun ask what's wrong and Hurley tells them what Michael did.Jin packs a bag, planning to go after Michael. He tells Sun that if he hurries, he can catch up.
Sun says, "You're not going anywhere." Jin starts to walk away and she says, "Don't go! Don't walk away from me! While you were on that raft do you know how worried I was? I didn't know if you were dead or alive. I was out of my head. I won't go through that again."
Jin says, "Michael's my friend."
"I'm your wife."
Jin puts down his pack.
What Will Jack Do With Michael?
Sawyer, Locke, and Jack trek through the jungle. "Hey, doc, you want to slow down, take a break a minute?" Sawyer says and Locke thinks it's a good idea."He still heading north?" Jack asks and Locke says he is. "Do you think he's lost?"
"Doesn't seem to be," Locke says. "The trail's as straight as the interstate, the path of a man who knows where he's going." Locke gives Jack a stare down. "Where are you going, Jack?"
"What?" Jack says.
Locke says, "Well, let's say we catch up with him. What are you going to do?"
"I'm going to bring him back," Jack says.
"What if he doesn't want to come back?" Locke says.
"I'll talk him into coming back," Jack says.
Locke says, "This is the second time he's gone after Walt. He knocked me out. He locked us both up. Something tells me he might be past listening to reason."
Jack wants to know if Locke thinks they should just write Michael off.
Locke says, "Who are we to tell anyone what they can or can't do?"
