- 1). Measure the length and width of the part of the shelf you would like to cover with paper. You may want to cover the base of the shelf where the books will be laid, or the back of the shelf that will be the most visible. You can also cover the edge of the shelf.
- 2). Measure the area again to double-check the measurements. Make any adjustment to your notes.
- 3). Roll out the paper edging and measure the length and width of the shelf onto the paper. Mark the measurements with a pencil.
- 4). Draw a straight line to the marks to draw a rectangle that is the same size as the part of the shelf you are covering. Use a level to ensure that the lines are perfectly straight and even.
- 5). Cut the rectangle out with a pair of sharp scissors. Do not use dull scissors, as they will not cut a clean line.
- 6). Remove all of the items from the shelf and clean it with home cleaner and paper towels.
- 7). Dry the shelf thoroughly with dry paper towels.
- 8). Peel the backing off of one edge of the shelf paper.
- 9). Gently press that edge against the matching shelf edge.
- 10
Peel off another few inches of backing and press it against the edge. Peeling off the backing gradually will help ensure that the shelf paper is properly lined up. Continue peeling and attaching until the entire part of the shelf is covered. - 11
Smooth out the paper with your hands to remove any air bubbles.
