Remanufactured ECMs: An Essential Part of the Engine

ECM ( Electronic Control Module) is an essential and an indispensable component of the engine especially in heavy trucks.
Therefore, it is important for all automotive enthusiasts to be aware of it and ensure its upkeep for the smooth working of the vehicle.
It determines the running efficiency of a vehicle and ensures working of all the internal processes.
If there are problems with the ignition, then it might be that your ECM needs to be refurbished.
Drivers often forget its pivotal role and some are not even aware that it needs to be repaired in order to ensure a longer life of the engine.
There are cases in which it even crashes, therefore, it is important to check it at regular intervals.
It can be modified according to the engine's need and its main purpose is to inject the required amount of fuel into the various cylinders of a vehicle.
ECM degrades eventually and thus, many drivers fall short of detecting the reduced efficient working of the engine in the initial stage itself.
The various symptoms of ECM failure are erratic idle speed, rough idle, engine surging, engine stalling and difficulty in starting the engine.
The drivers should keep in mind to check the engine light.
For checking the condition of the ECM one requires a couple of equipment which are a repair manual, hot box, scan tool, test light, a digital volt ohm meter and a wiring diagram of the engine.
It is especially recommended that the drivers should keep proper watch in the summer season as the blazing heat exerts further pressure on the engine.
Many companies provide calibrated ECMs which means that any driver with minuscule amount of information and the right tools can easily fix it himself.
In case of these calibrated ECMs, one only has to detach the old one and bolt on the new one.
ECMs are supplied after being tested on a working truck which ensures that their performance is at the peak.
Since, new ECMs can easily burn a hole in a vehicle owner's pocket, there are companies who provides high quality remanufactured ECMs which reduces a large percentage of the cost leaving a customer with high-end gear and also fully satisfied.
It is important to note that the ECM installed in your vehicle has to be compatible with it.
In case the ECM is not compatible, it can severely harm the engine in the long-run.
Therefore, it is mandatory that ECM is calibrated to same CPL (engine spec code).
There are majorly two categories of ECMs namely Celect ECMs and Celect Plus ECMs.
And they are not interchangeable i.
e.
, a Celect ECM can not be installed in a Celect Plus truck.
Moreover, they cannot be programmed or modified for the purpose.
Although with little tweaks and twitches and swapping of other parts such as wiring harness, a Celect Plus truck can be made to accept Celect ECM, it is not at all recommended.
Also, ECMs are often stolen directly from the vehicles and re-sold as remanufactured ECMs.
Hence, the owners are advised to only purchase ECMs from reputed companies in order to prevent any ordeal.
