It was March of 2011 when Facebook started making some changes in the process of making Fan Pages.
They replaced the use of FMBL with a full use of HTML, javascripts and iFrame for customizing fan pages.
It was during the same time frame when I started creating my own Facebook fan pages which I eventually placed on hold until I can have full information on how to set it up the new way.
I admit, I lost focus in creating fan pages for a while because I was busy finding alternative ways to drive traffic (which was worth it) since a lot of people are still finding out how the whole "new" fan page works.
But after some time, I decided to outsource the creation of fan pages.
I gave my team access to training videos and other materials that can be useful.
While I focused on learning more on how the new fan page works.
Needless to say, the outsource team did an excellent job in designing the pages and making it aesthetically appealing, but since I did not discussed to them the goals I wanted to achieve, it lacks strategy (and it was my fault).
One thing I learned is you need to have a concise plan and a clear strategy on what you wanted to achieve before starting a fan page.
Begin with the end in mind.
Don't just create for the sake of having a fan page, make it work to your advantage.
So want to learn how to set up a Fan Page the right way? Read on and never repeat the mistakes I have committed.
Take your time and consider the following: 1.
Have a lay-out plan of the strategy you will use prior to building the actual page 2.
Check your commitment in making your goals possible.
Can you set aside a portion of your time to manage and keep the content of your page interesting, fresh and engaging? If not, do you have someone you can trust to do it for you? 3.
Have a personal Facebook account before you create a page.
Set-up your Fan page using your personal account.
This way, you can manage your page without logging out your personal account.
4.
Invest in a good graphic designer (or graphic designing tool).
Having a professional looking page can really make a difference.
Do not forget to take note of the following: profile image should not be larger than 200px wide and 600px high.
5.
To get the URL name you wanted (or vanity URL), your page should have more than 25 likes.
6.
There are literally hundreds of apps to choose from which will make tasks such as uploading videos easier.
7.
Consider using Facebook ads to reach more ideal customers.
8.
Make sure to sustain the interest of the readers.
Encourage interaction as much as possible.
Ask questions, share your thoughts or post images.
Take time to like reader comments and comment back to keep the interest growing.
9.
Visit your fan page daily.
10.
Set up your privacy settings to make use you can control the comments, likes, views and other essential aspects of your site.
Make sure to remove comments that are SPAM.
So why is it necessary to set-up your own Facebook page? Knowing more about the role of social media (like Facebook) and social media marketing is another must read for everyone to read.
