Some Basic Rules of Golf For the Beginner

One of the more important things in golf especially since your typically playing with a group of people is to know which ball is yours.
It's a good idea to mark your ball with a Sharpie marker so there is no confusion as to who's it is in case someone is playing the same ball.
When playing from hole to hole the player who has the lowest score has the honor on the following hole.
Once everyone has hit their ball off the tee box the player who's ball is farthest from the green plays first.
Also when placing your ball between the tee markers you'll need to make sure you are between them or behind them.
If you're going to play behind them you can be no more than 2 club lengths behind them.
Many of us don't always hit a nice straight ball and end up in the woods.
If you're in the woods and you're lie is not the greatest, sticks or leaves in the way, you cannot improve the lie.
Even it tree branches or bushes are in your way you can't move those either.
One rule to note is when it comes to hitting the ball.
When you intend to hit the ball that is when a stroke is counted.
If you intend to hit the ball and you miss you have to count that as a stroke.
Many of us get together in a group when we're out on the golf course and discuss whether or not we want to play stroke or match play.
Stroke play is played by each player keeping track of their golf strokes.
So if you shoot a 82 after 18 holes and you golf partners shoots 87 you just beat him according to stroke play.
Also it's important to note that according to the rules you can't give any one shots.
For example when someone is 3 feet from the hole you can't tell that person to pick it up, if playing formally that is.
Each person in the golf group is in charge of their own score at the end of play.
When approaching the green there are some rules to follow.
First when you're on the green many times there are leaves or dead worms in the line of your putt.
You are allowed to remove these items with your hands or your club but nothing else.
If you see ball marks those should be repaired before putting.
If your ball needs cleaning or you need to get it out of the way for another players putt you may do so with a coin or ball marker.
If you are on the green and have a clear view of the hole have the pin pulled since hitting in stroke play when on the green can cost you a two stroke penalty.
