Earning money from your hobby is something we all dream about, after all.
How do you really know if your photos will sell, and that you won't be wasting your time submitting your photos? What kinds of photos do SELL? Here are some questions you can ask yourself as you look into selling stock photography - some ways to find out if your photos are potential money-makers.
Questions where your answer should be a firm and absolute "YES":
- If you have people in your photos that are even semi-recognizable, do you have model release forms?
- Is there a point to the particular photo? In other words, will there be a market for it?
- Do your photos have interesting composition? Or will there be thousands more of the same photo already online?
- Did you take the photo YOURSELF?
- Are your photos bright, colourful, and in focus?
- Are you photos over-filtered or too obviously touched-up?
- Are there any harsh and un-natural shadows in your photos?
- Are there any trade-marked brands showing?
- Is the colour even slightly off?
- Were you photos taken at a low resolution level?
The truth is, however, that a lot of people think they are good photographers these days.
Only if you follow the "rules" of selling stock photography will you be successful.
"What sells" and "what doesn't" is not always an easy thing to figure out, but using the guidelines above will definitely help you with your photo selection for the stock photography sites.
