- 1). Restart your iPod. Restarting an iPod has the same effect as restarting a computer in that it clears the device's internal memory, allowing it to reboot fresh and normal. To reboot your iPod hold down the "Play" button and the circular "Enter" button at the same time for 10 to 15 seconds. The iPod will shut itself off. Press and hold these two buttons until the iPod turns back on.
- 2). Make sure you have the latest software version. By connecting your iPod to your computer using the device's USB link cable, you can open iTunes and check to see if any new version of the iPod's internal software is available. Apple updates iPod software to add new features and fix bugs known to be present in previous versions. To check for software updates click on your iPod's name in iTunes and select "Check for Updates." If any software updates are available you will be prompted to download them.
- 3). Restore your iPod. Restoring your iPod will have the same effect as uninstalling and reinstalling a program on a computer. It will completely format your iPod's internal hard drive (deleting all of your data in the process), reinstall the software and sync your iPod back up with your iTunes library. This can solve a lot of software related issues you may be experiencing. Connect your iPod to your computer, open iTunes and click on your iPod's name. Click on the "Restore" button to begin the process.
