How Do Guys Handle Breakups? - 2 Typical "guy Modes" You Can" t Afford To Be In

So how do guys handle breakups? To be blunt, not very well.

When it comes to asking for and admitting they need help, men are worse than pig-headed mules. First of all, they don't like to talk about their emotions and prefer to keep the painful feelings associated with a breakup bottled up inside. Secondly, whether it's pride, ego, or something else, they like to believe they can handle any situation on their own even if they have little or no experience with it. Combine these two nuances when it comes to repairing a relationship, and most men make a lot of critical mistakes that tend to push their ex girlfriends further away.

So what should men do different? How should guys handle breakups?

In order to understand the right way for a man to handle a breakup, it is important to first examine the wrong way to go about winning a girl back. When a man gets dumped, he will most often have one of two reactions. The first reaction is the "I'll do or say anything to get her back" reaction and the second is the "I'm so mad I could care less" reaction. Neither of these is very successful when it comes to getting an ex girlfriend back.

Here's why...

The I'll Do Or Say Anything To Get Her Back Reaction

The men in this category usually fall directly into panic mode after a breakup and start doing things that make them look needy, desperate, weak, and ultimately pathetic to their girlfriend. Many times this is the reaction of the man who realizes he did something wrong in the relationship and believes if he just does or says the right things, then it will make it all better. It's usually characterized by begging, pleading, apologizing, and/or attempts to buy his way back into the relationship through flowers, jewelry, or other gifts.

The man in this situation hands over his manhood and is at the complete mercy of his woman. He operates under the saying, "Just tell me what you want me to do to get you back and I'll do it."

When a man finds himself in this kind of desperation mode, he will often lie and say things he doesn't mean, hoping he finds the words he thinks she wants to hear. Men who take on these actions rarely get their girlfriends back, and instead push them into someone else's arms.

The I'm So Mad I Could Care Less Reaction

How do guys handle breakups when they fall into this category? These men usually operate under an angry, vengeful attitude. The pain they experience from breaking up with someone they are deeply in love with causes them to do and say hurtful things they usually regret later. This can range from saying extremely mean things to their girlfriend to going out to a bar, getting drunk, and sleeping with the very next woman they run across.

These men are usually the type who take on stalker-like qualities. They drive past their ex girlfriends house or apartment to see if her car is in the driveway and if anyone else is hanging out with her. They show up at her work and cause a big scene. They spy on her MySpace and Facebook pages and get extremely jealous if she's talking to any other guy. Unable to control their own emotions, men in this category seek to make sure their ex girlfriends are just as miserable as they are after a breakup.

If you want to handle a breakup in the right way, you must avoid falling into either of these two categories. You must be able to accept the breakup, gain control of your emotions, take a step back, create space, and continue to be confident and happy without being mean or spiteful.

Otherwise you will come across as desperate and needy and will kill any attraction your girlfriend still has for you. And that gives you no chance of getting her back.
