Halloween is not only a big deal for kids but for parents as well. Each year, parents make a fuss about Halloween other than the candies that their children get. Trick-or-treating is really fun. But there are many parents out there who will not let any Halloween pass without getting a wonderful Halloween costume for their children. Oftentimes, days before Halloween are days spent for looking character costumes at your local costume stores.

On the other hand, it could also mean crafting out costumes from nothing. One of the simplest costumes that can be made from scratch is the chicken costume. It"s a wonderful costume idea, particularly for smaller children who usually don"t have any ideas on what to wear for Halloween. Surely, you and your kids will be glad with the outcome. You will really smile because of how easy it is to make and how easy it is on the budget.

Steps to Making a Chicken Costume

Making a chicken costume is really simple. You need materials such as: 7 inches of medium white feather boas, 4 medium white feather boas, 2 white long sleeved leotards, yellow tights, polyester fiberfill stuffing, canvas shoes, yellow latex gloves, a white baseball hat, two 8 by 12 inch orange felt pieces, two large wiggly eyes, hot glue gun, safety pins, and a black marker.

First step is to put one of your two leotards inside the other. Ensure that both the arm and leg openings match up. Then, stitch the legs together. Fill the polyester fiberfill stuffing between these two leotards. Have the neck openings matched up. Then stitch them together. This is the body part of the chicken costume.

Next, is to make the head. You have to cut two large triangles from the orange felt and squeeze them on either side of the hat brim. Be sure that they are attached well. For the nostrils, you need to attach two black buttons. For the chicken"s eyes, attach two google eyes. On top of the hat, attach a red boa "comb".

You can now start making the feet. Fill the latex gloves with fiberfill. Have it placed palm down. Then, place the child"s shoe in each of these gloves. Then firmly pull the gloves up, making sure that these are glued to the shoes.

After all those steps, you are now ready to put the whole costume together. Let your child wear the leotard. Cover the white feather boas onto the shoulders, arms, and body, and secure the boas with safety pins. Then let your child wear the hat. Now, your child"s definitely ready for Halloween.
