How to Unlock an Admin Password in Windows XP With a Recovery Disk

    • 1). Place your recovery disk into your computer's floppy disk drive or your CD drive. Boot the computer.

    • 2). Press the "Enter" key on the first screen to leave the system defaults intact.

    • 3). Select "Edit user data and passwords" from the next screen. Choose the account for which you want to reset the password. This will be labeled "Administrator" in the window.

    • 4). Type your new password into the fields provided.

    • 5). Use the defaults in the next screen and press the "Enter" key. Take your boot disk out of the computer and then restart the system for the changes to take effect.
