Money is a real headache to some people and while I found it rewarding, entertaining and down right fun to manage money, others are horrified at the thought.
For some reason money just confuses people.
They are enticed by it and lose all sense of rational thought.
Here are some basic tips to help keep you on the straight and narrow.
1.
Spend less than you make.
This one is obvious but tough for some.
If you truly need more than can afford then get another job.
Don't rely on credit cards or bilking people out of money.
2.
Pay off your debts.
Start with high interest debt and work your way down.
Or start with the smallest balance and work your way up.
Either method works, choose the one that will give you the biggest sense of accomplishment.
3.
Quit trying to out-do the neighbors and impress people.
Who cares how big your house is, or how new the car.
This is not a race.
Buy what you truly need, all else is frivolous.
4.
Keep track of your progress.
If you're on a repayment plan or budget savings plan, don't lose sight of it.
Don't do it from memory.
Use software like Quicken or an online tool like mint.
com to keep yourself on track and focused.
5.
Don't spend on impulse.
Always plan ahead when you go shopping.
Make a list, buy what you need.
How will the bill be paid? If credit card, write down the amount, save the receipt and subtract it from your thoughts about having that money.
The money is spent even though the bill won't come for another month.
Pay in cash if tracking this is hard for you.
6.
Be generous with others.
Give without regret and help lose less fortunate than you.
There's always someone in a rougher spot.
Build your internal wealth in addition to your bank account.
