Located around 25 kms away from Bangalore, on the fringes of the city, this conserved area has an action-packed day in store for you.
So you might want to carry along some energy-filled snacks with you, but remember not to litter! The most attractive offers of all is the Lion and Tiger Safari, wherein you could watch lions and tigers in their natural habitat.
These have been rescued and rehabilitated by the Karnataka Forest Department.
Established in the year 1971, this park houses a wide variety of birds and animals, a pleasurable experience indeed for children and adults alike.
Besides, it also has a zoo, a museum and conservatories, a great place to gather first-hand information and improve your biological knowledge.
Most wild animals like Leopards, Lions, Bengal Tigers, Panthers, White Tigers, Bisons, Rhinoceroses, Elephants, Zebras, Spotted Deer, Bears and Porcupines can be seen here.
This is not all! The park also proudly exhibits the first ever butterfly conservatory in India, as it is the 'baby' of the Zoo Authority of Karnataka, Ashoka Trust and University of Agricultural Sciences and also Research in Ecology and Environment (ATREE).
The park is an abode of flora that attracts over 20 different species of butterflies.
The conservatory maintains a tropical climate including necessary humidity level to suit the butterflies.
Trekking enthusiasts can traverse across the Hajjamana Kallu, Uddigebande, and Mirza Hills and visit the small temples located on top of these hills.
You can also go in for an accommodation if you are looking for an overnight stay at Bannerghatta.
It offers eight tented cottages and 2 log huts, besides a tidy dormitory, enough to accommodate approximately 20 adults.
It is also an appropriate place for corporate groups for seminars, brainstorming sessions or meetings.
The park is open throughout the week from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, except for Tuesdays.
The best times to visit is between September and January.
Bangalore airport is the nearest point from the park, if you reach the city by air, and so is the Bangalore railway station.
Regular buses connect the city with the park and it might take about an hour to reach the destination.
