How to Edit XP Startup Items

    Edit XP startup applications

    • 1). Click "Start" on the XP desktop. Click "Run."

    • 2). Type "msconfig" in the "Open" field. Click the "Startup" tab.

    • 3). Disable the check boxes adjacent to the programs you do not want to have run automatically at start up. Click the "Apply" button.

    Edit XP startup services

    • 1). Click "Start" on the XP desktop.

    • 2). Click "Run." Type "services.msc" in the "Open" field. The Services window displays. Services that have an automatic start display "Automatic" in the "Startup Type" column. Double-click the service row to modify.

    • 3). Select "manual" or "disabled" from the "Startup Type" drop-down list. Click "Apply." Click "OK."
