How to Replace the Starter in a 1993 Ford Ranger V6 3.0

    • 1). Disconnect the negative cable from the battery terminal. Place wheel chocks behind the rear tires of your truck.

    • 2). Raise the truck with a jack and place a jack stand under the frame. Raise the jack stand up to the frame.

    • 3). Don the safety glasses and crawl under the Ranger. Locate the starter. Mark the wire locations on the starter using the masking tape and the marker. Remove the wires from the starter by taking the nuts off with a wrench.

    • 4). Remove the starter by taking the bolts off using a socket and a ratchet. Be careful when taking the last bolt out as the starter is heavy and you don't want it to fall on you.

    • 5). Put the new starter in place and tighten the bolts with the socket and ratchet. Reconnect the wires according to how you marked them. Secure the wires to the starter by tightening the nuts with a wrench.

    • 6). Remove the jack stand from under the Ranger and lower the truck to the ground.

    • 7). Reconnect the negative cable to the battery terminal. Start the engine to test the starter installation.
