- Altering your diet is one way in which you can treat tonsillitis. Once you discover you have tonsillitis, you will want to fast for three days. During these three days, drink plenty of water and orange juice. After this period of fasting, stick to a fruit-centered diet for around three to four days. From there, you may work your way up to a more balanced diet, but try to keep up your fruit and seed intake. Spices and acidic foods should be avoided because they can cause throat irritation. Carbonated drinks and cigarettes should be cut out of your diet as well in order to cut down on throat irritation.
- Garlic has anti-inflammatory agents that make ingesting it good for fighting tonsillitis. Add garlic to your meals, or take garlic supplements daily. You may also look into using oregano to aid your recovery from tonsillitis. Oregano is used as an antiseptic herb and should be added into your diet. You can also take an onion and juice it, then ingest the juice to help with tonsillitis. Turmeric can be of use as well. Take turmeric powder and add it to lukewarm milk, then gargle it. Ginger juice should be mixed with an equal part of honey and two parts warm water for another gargle to ease a case of tonsillitis. Combine Echinacea and goldenseal with boiling water to make a tea that should be drank daily.
- Other remedies for tonsillitis utilize things found in many homes. You can take a glass of milk, boil it, then add in turmeric powder and pepper powder and drink this nightly until your tonsillitis subsides. One tablespoon lemon and one tablespoon of honey should be mixed into a glass of warm water to drink nightly. Alternately, you can take a glass of warm water, add in freshly squeezed lime juice, four teaspoons of honey, and a dash of salt, then mix it. Sip this concoction slowly for relief from tonsillitis. You may also wish to drink carrot, beet, or cucumber juice.
