At the dysfunctional DiMera mansion, Lucas is sitting with Allie when Sami emerges and worries about Johnny, who won’t stop crying. Sami believes he’s teething and she’s looking for his blanket. Lucas asks what he can do to help. “There’s only one person who can help when he’s like this and that’s E.J.,” she replies. Lucas thinks that Johnny should be able to do without E.J. for one night. Sami tries to phone E.J.
and deduces that his phone is off, since she can’t reach him. Sami mentions how E.J. sings a song to Johnny, which makes him feel better. Lucas offers to sing it for Johnny. Sami doubts Lucas can fulfill the task, implying how E.J. has this whole “thing” he does with singing the song. Lucas believes he can handle it. She agrees to go get Johnny.
Lucas later talks like a high-pitched Martian to Johnny, but he’s still crying. Sami reminds him that E.J.’s song is the only thing that works with Johnny. Lucas dons a British accent and sings to the tot. Sami is ecstatic that it worked and he stopped crying. “Thank you. Thank you very much,” he says in his Elvis Presley impersonation, which makes Sami laugh
E.J. and Nicole are dancing at Chez Rouge, obvious that they’ve had a few drinks together. E.J. marvels how much fun he’s having with her. Nicole purrs how E.J. is a lot more fun without Sami. Their lips touch briefly before E.J. tries to flag down a waiter. “E.J. I could really be falling for you,” Nicole sighs after he walks off.
Meanwhile, Bo and Hope enjoy dancing together. He asks how her shoulder’s feeling. She thinks she can handle it and asks how he’s feeling. “Never better,” he responds. Hope doesn’t want him to overexert himself. Bo implies how he’s saving that for later. She says no, since she doesn’t want to take any chances. Bo tries to assure her that he’s fine and is up for the challenge, then kisses her.
Morgan arrives and receives a call from Steph, who apologizes that she and Max left earlier. Steph demurs that Max had to work and he felt a little too casual for Chez Rouge. Morgan remarks how silly that is. Steph shares how she and Max are at her parents’ place waiting for them to get back from seeing the baby. Morgan believes that the party’s over anyway and tells Steph to have a good night. After Steph hangs up, she tells Max how she felt bad for lying to one of her friends. She insists that there’s more to the story than what he’s telling her and refuses to let him leave until he spills.
E.J. and Nicole sit back down together as she demonstrates the “proper” way to do a shot, which he has never done before. She shows him how to lick the salt off of his hand, down the shot, then he sucks on a lime which she has in her mouth. She remarks that he’s a lot more fun than he looks. E.J. remarks that she’s a lot more beautiful than he tells her. She notes that he seems a lot happier since Sami signed the annulment papers. “Ever since the judge proved them, or didn’t prove them,” he says as he continues to drink. A confused Nicole implores him to tell her what he’s up to, insisting that he can trust her. E.J. intends to tell Sami that the annulment is null and void. Nicole wonders why he would do that. “Because, we had marital relations,” he replies. He predicts that Sami will be happy about this. Nicole asks if the annulment is actually valid. E.J. affirms that it is, but it’s a secret.
Morgan runs into her dad and greets him with a hug, wondering what he’s doing there. He claims he stopped by for a nightcap, since he feels like celebrating. He believes that the grand jury will not indict him on the bribery and fraud charges. Morgan wonders why he doesn’t seem concerned with the drug bust. Paul says that he had nothing to do with it, but Morgan is dubious since she heard rumors.
Bo and Hope finish their romantic dance as she marvels at what an amazing time she’s having with him. She expresses how grateful she is to have him back alive and healthy, recalling how she almost lost him. Bo admits that he learned to make the most of every moment, since one never knows what’s going to happen. Hope implores him not to talk like that and kisses him.
E.J. and Nicole proceed to do another shot. This time she sucks the lime from his mouth. She clarifies what he just told her, which is that Sami thinks the marriage is over. E.J. states that it is, but he’s going to lie about it and blame the judge. Nicole predicts it could backfire, especially if Sami ever found out. E.J. says she won’t find out, since they are the only two who know. Nicole speculates that he would never tell her unless he was half drunk. “I would never tell you because you are trouble,” he counters. “Make that completely drunk!” she notes, which elicits laughter from E.J. “You are right, not to trust me,” she says.
At the police station, Abe interrogates John. He asks John if he’s serving as his own attorney. John clarifies that his attorney is “Elvis John DiMera,” who is dealing with personal issues at the moment. Abe wonders if it’s wise for E.J. not to be present for a round of questioning. John continues to insist that he was framed by Philip. Roman enters just as an officer hands him a document. John looks it over and notes that it looks like a manifest from one of his ships. Roman informs him that a good portion of his cargo was loaded in Mexico. Abe reveals that the listed port is home base to one of the largest cocaine smuggling rings in the world. Roman points out that the contents of the crates where they found the drugs were listed incorrectly on the manifest. Abe suspects that John was counting on Paul Hollingsworth to clear the crates and direct them to John’s warehouse without them ever being checked or opened. John insists that someone doctored the manifest, but Roman and Abe don’t believe it, pointing out that he’s not the man they once knew. John admits that he’s not his “sainted alter ego,” but he tells it like it is. He asserts for the hundredth time that Philip is the one who planted drugs on his ship. Roman orders an officer to take John to his arraignment. After John exits, Roman and Abe admit that they don’t believe John.
