What Is the Default IP Address for a Linksys Router?
Question: What is the Default IP Address of a Linksys Router?
Home broadband network routers use a default IP address when first powered on. This enables you to access their administrative functions for first time router setup. This IP address is the local (private) one, sometimes also called the default gateway address.
Answer: The default IP address of Linksys routers is 192.168.1.1. Note that this private address is only for the local network.
The Linksys router will obtain another, public IP address when connected to the Internet.
As an administrator, you can change this default IP address either during installation or anytime later. Changing a router's default IP address may be necessary, for example, to avoid conflict with the IP address of an Internet modem or another router already installed on 192.168.1.1. A common alternate IP address setting for Linksys routers is 192.168.2.1. This address usually does not need to be changed, however.
Linksys routers with guest network capability normally also use the default IP address 192.168.3.1 for managing that subnetwork.
