Following up on the 2010 action comedy Red, Bruce Willis stars in the sequel Red 2.
This film has an awesome ensemble cast that will delight any hardcore Willis fans.
Directed by Robert Schwentke Red 2 has an impressive cast consisting of Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich,Mary-Louise Parker, Helen Mirren, and Karl Urban.
Bruce Willis plays a former black ops CIA agent Frank Moses who is now retired and is living a quite life with his girlfriend Sarah Ross (Mary-Louise Parker).
Just when Willis thinks he has finally left his old life away, problems begin in life again when Marvin Boggs (John Malkovich), his old colleague claims that some assassins are still after them.
He is convinced when a car bomb kills Marvin and Willis is dragged in for questioning about a clandestine Cold War-era mission called 'Nightshade' that he coordinated in his old spying days.
The plot takes a new and deadlier twist when Frank's former MI6 British counterpart Victoria (Helen Mirren) and ruthless South Korean contract killer Han (Byung Hun Lee), Anthony Hopkins, the linchpin in a plot get tangled themselves in this game of chase and hunt.
Bruce Willis is known as a veteran and has made a name for himself in array of action movies like Die Hard series.
However in this film, Willis proves that he can handle any amount of comedy coupled with action sequences.
Anthony Hopkins with his classy acting steals the show in this movie. Even his thick fine lines does not prevent him showing why he is the best actor of his generation.
He delivers an astonishing performance as the mentally deranged scientist who has been locked up by an intelligence agency for 31 years - he was such a genius at creating bombs he was deemed too dangerous to be in the society.
A genuinely gifted actor, Anthony Hopkins also delivers the films best comedic punches.
Red 2 is definitely funny even for a action comedy.
The action sequences are clean, slick and well constructed. Catherine Zeta Jones in a special appearance lights up the screen with her classy sass.
The movie has odd turns and twists where the major twist comes within an hour.
However, the film loses major steam in the plot but it redeems itself by its carefully constructed and blast filled action sequences. The music is decent enough and the cinematography excellent.
Even though it is less funny than the previous film, RED 2 has hold onto it's own with its own charm and class.
When then film ends, you cannot help but hope for more action from these elderly spies, who gives James Bond a run for their money.
Watch this film on HBO India and enjoy the fun ride with Frank Moses.
