The field of criminology offers students the opportunity to study criminal behavior and how it is confronted by local, state and federal criminal systems. Those with degrees in criminology often go onto education, law enforcement, sociology, research and law fields, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Students interested in the field and going to college in New Jersey have the option of attending several universities that offer bachelor's degrees in criminology. - The College of New Jersey, located in Ewing, New Jersey, offers a bachelor of science degree in criminology, as well as minors in quantitative criminology and in law, politics and philosophy. Graduates of the College of New Jersey's criminal justice program often go on to pursue graduate degrees from institutions across the United States, such as Rutgers University and Villanova University. According to the college's website, the criminal justice program strives to promote leadership among its students, develop students into communicators and teach them problem-solving skills.

According to the university's website, the school reaches out to students who hold jobs by offering the same class twice during the day--once in the morning and once in the evening. The university also offers a master of science in criminal justice with concentrations in law enforcement and criminal justice through the Graduate College of Professional Studies.

The university's criminal justice program prepares graduates for graduate study or careers in legal and law enforcement fields, according to the Rutgers University website. If students choose to pursue graduate study, the university offers a master of arts degree in criminal justice at the Camden and Newark campuses. Newark students also have the opportunity to earn their doctorate in criminal justice.

nbcjm.rutgers.edu - Seton Hall's criminal justice program offers three areas of studies for students interested in pursuing careers in criminology--criminalization, criminality and corrections. Students studying in these programs will earn a bachelor of arts degree in criminal justice. The university also offers graduate programs in law if students choose that path for further study.
