Dollhouse Interior Plan Preparation
If you fail to plan you plan to fail. A plan ensures that you are getting exactly what you want, and helps you avoid wasting time. With miniature design a plan of action will consist of a floor plan and budget. A floor plan will consist of measurements, color, furniture pieces, and a good rough outline of the room. There is a plentiful supply of examples of good room designs both online and offline. Make sure that you are taking notes of great rooms that you see. Take these notes and modify your plan. Now that you are ready to buy, you will want to break out your budget to make sure that you don't overspend. Unfortunately for hobbyists miniatures can get a little expensive. And if you can't buy the furniture piece yet, save up until you can.
Floor Trim for your Dollhouse
As you are building and tweaking your dollhouse you will discover some great time saving secrets. The last dollhouse that I was making I discovered a great addition that really made my interior stand out. I discovered the importance of having trim around your floor. Floor Trim is not a new creation, but what I found is instead of buying it, to use a very thin balsa wood found in most craft stores. I applied this balsa wood to the floor of each of my walls to form a great outline along the bottom. My biggest discovery is when the trim hid most of the fine mistakes between the floor and the wall. Another great thing about the trim is that it covers the edges of the wallpaper and prevents fraying. This discovery truly was a small one, but I believe that it really added to my dollhouse.
Fabrics and Cloth
Once you understand that anything and everything can change, be created, or designed in your dollhouse it opens up tons of potential. For instance the amount of detail that is available to you is mesmerizing. A great example is using linens to coordinate your dollhouse design, and make things pop. If you are looking for an example, or maybe a good starting point then I would recommend the bedroom. Everything from curtains and pillows, to mattresses and blankets can be created and made to fit. Next is the dinning room where you can have your own napkins, dinning room table covers, seat covers, etc. From there we move to the bathroom where you can create your own shower curtains, toilet seat covers, and more. There is just an unending amount of personal style that you can put into your dollhouse.
Dollhouse Flooring Options
It is the small things that once changed make the biggest difference, and in this case flooring is a great small change for a big difference. Flooring is often overlooked because it is the base, but that only means that it is really the foundation for your furniture and design choices. Not only that, it adds a very distinct touch that will take your dollhouse and move it to the next level. There are several types of flooring that you might want to consider: Carpet, linoleum, tile, stone, and/or hard wood. Carpet is a really fun choice, because it makes the kit seem like a miniature version of your house. Linoleum and tile are basically the same for your kit in application, they are simply different designs. Adding Stone for your deck, hardwood for your living room will add a fun touch - look around and find the best option
