- 1). Fill the deep fryer halfway with clean or very lightly used cooking oil. Most deep fryers indicate how much oil you can safely add. If you add too much oil, it will splatter out of the fryer.
- 2). Pat food dry with a paper towel before you put it in the deep fryer. If the food is damp or wet, the water reacts with the hot oil, causing splatters. Coating the food with breadcrumbs or flour also cuts down on splatters.
- 3). Put a metal mesh frying screen over the top of the fryer. This shields you from splattering oil.
