How to Disable Registry Editing Tools

    • 1). Click on the Windows "Start" menu. Click on "Run," then type "regedit" at the command prompt. Press "OK" to confirm. The Registry Editor opens up.

      For Windows Vista and 7 users, click on the "Start" Orb button then type "regedit" in the "Start Search" text field. Press Enter or "OK" to confirm.

    • 2). Expand the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" hive, by clicking on the "+" sing next to it.

    • 3). Continue expanding the following keys and sub-keys (sub-folders): "SOFTWARE" > "Microsoft" > "Windows" > "CurrentVersion" > "Policies" > "System."

    • 4). Right-click on an empty space on the right pane within the Registry Editor window. Mouse-over the "New" pop-up menu and select "DWORD Value" from the drop-down menu. The new DWORD Value displays on the list on the right pane.

    • 5). Name the newly added value as follows: "DisableRegistryTools" (without the quotation marks).

    • 6). Double-click on "DisableRegistryTools". The "Edit DWORD Value" dialog box opens up. Enter "1" under the "Value data" text field and press "OK" to confirm.

    • 7). Close the Registry Editor and restart your PC.
