Polaris Exhaust Valve Cleaning Information

    Bellows and Valve Guillotine

    • Remove the gap in order to gain access to the bellows and valve guillotine. Peel back the bellows to access the retaining bolts holding the housing bolted to the cylinder. Remove the bolts.

    Cleaning

    • Once the housing is removed, the valve should slide out of the cylinder. Scrub the valve and all the small parts (including the bolts, bellows and cylinder) with mineral spirits and steel wool. Tooth brushes can help access hard-to-reach places.

    Reassembly

    • Once everything is clean, reassemble the unit using the steps for disassembly in reverse order. Ensure that the valve is reinserted into the cylinder the right way up. Many valves have the top end marked as such. Be sure that all the bolts and caps are tight.
