How to Provide Personal Information to Obtain a Credit Report

    • 1). Visit annualcreditreport.com. Established jointly by the three credit bureaus to comply with FACTA, this is the official site for ordering your free credit reports.

    • 2). Choose the state where you live from the drop-down list and then click "Request Report."

    • 3). Complete the online form in its entirety. The form will ask for your personal information, such as your name, address, Social Security number and date of birth. Click "Continue" when you are finished.

    • 4). Choose which credit bureau report you want to order. You can order all three but you must do so one at a time. Click "Next" when you're ready to continue.

    • 5). Follow the link, which takes you to the credit bureau's website. You will have to fill out the bureau's brief online form to access your report online. The bureau will validate your identity by asking for personal information from your report that only you should know. If you can't answer the questions, you will have to order the report using the mailing address or toll-free number listed on the website.

    • 6). Click on the tab that reads "Return to Annualcreditreport.com" once you've received online access to your report. This will allow you to order another report if you wish by repeating the steps you've just taken. If you're done, hit the "Close" button to exit the system.
