ANXIETY. What are the Consequences of Anxiety?
Hello, I am Rod Morgan of The Anxiety Workshop.
When people come to me with their anxiety a question I always think they could ask is, What are the consequences of my anxiety and what could happen as a result of it?
Well, anxiety is all about prolonged nervousness, worry and fear. And when we constantly worry about something, we constantly focus on it. Now, there is an interesting psychological principle here which states that, the more you focus on something, the more you get of it.
So therefore, worrying about something produces a vicious circle. Because the more you worry about something, the worse it gets. The worse it gets, the more you worry about it. And worrying about something of itself won't make it better.
So this constant worrying about something just adds fire to the vicious circle and this vicious circle can then produce a number of results such as -
- tension
- headaches
- disturbed sleep patterns
- which then produce fatigue
- and the fatigue produces an impaired immune system
- which can then lead to illness
- Anxiety also produces underperformance at work and a lack of self confidence
- and because we are lacking confidence in ourselves, other people begin to lack confidence in us too.
- Anxiety can produce an undermining in our relationships
- and reduced success and enjoyment in recreation.
So therefore it is imperative that people suffering from anxiety seek professional help as soon as possible.
