According to Canadian Medical Association Journals editorial report female foeticides occurs in large enough numbers among some immigrant groups of ethnic Indian and Chinese in U.S and Canada to distort male-female ratio. In the U.S sex ratio among Indians is skewing as there are 105 boys for every 100 girls. Some physicians have recommended that health care professionals should reveal sex of the foetus to any woman only after 30 weeks of pregnancy because after 30 weeks any type of unquestioned abortion is impossible. A nationwide pole conducted by Agnus Reid agency has been found that 60 percent of the Canadians out of which 66 percent are woman supported law governing the use of selective abortion. But several health care professional in U.S and Canada have opposed saying that it is right of parents to get information from parents. According to the society of Gynaecologist of Canada it is right of parents to get information about gender of their foetus but they also have claimed that they do not tolerate pregnancy termination request for non medical reasons. They also pointed out that gender of the sex can be easily determined within eight weeks from pregnancy nowadays with the help of biochemical test kit available in the market and accuracy of such sex determination kit is also high so its possible to determine sex of foetus from home. Therefore there should not be any barrier that would prevent woman from accessing ultrasound tests. According to some research reports Indian parents do not abort their first born child regardless of any gender. But India Family always wish to have at least one boy therefore if they had planned for two children and already had a girl then they would try best to ensure that second child will be a boy.

It is not only in India where male children are preferred. According to the research reports that are available now if Americans could have only one child, they would prefer that it be a boy rather than a girl. According to the poll conducted in U.S in last year American men prefer a boy over girl, American women do not have a strong preference for either gender. 31 percent of American women said that they would prefer son while 33 per cent preferred daughter. 54 per cent of young Americans, in the age group of 30 and below, want a boy. Only 27 per cent in the age group of 30 want a daughter. Men under 50 are the highest percentage of males who want a son. For women under 50, it is 50-50. 50 year old men and even those older also would like to have a son instead of a daughter. It has been found that Education seems to be deciding factor as Americans with lower education prefer son over daughter.
