- 1). Store your marimba in an area that is not in direct sunlight. Direct sunlight dries out the wooden bars of the instrument.
- 2). Place your marimba in an area that is not exposed to heat, such as in front of heat vents or radiators. Heat sources also dry out the wood to a detrimental extent.
- 3). Store your marimba in an environment that has a consistent, moderate temperature. Rapid temperature changes can cause the wood of a marimba to crack and split.
- 4). Play your marimba with a wound, rubber mallet. Extremely dense mallets, such as those made of acrylic, can damage the bars of the marimba.
- 5). Wipe off your marimba occasionally with a quality furniture polish.
