- 1). Inspect the pit for any debris. Remove debris and clean the pit as necessary. Place the pump in the pit, making sure it is on an even surface.
- 2). Measure the desired float on/off position. Move the stops into the position you have measured. These stops will determine the amount of water removed from the pit.
- 3). Attach the discharge tube from the pump to a properly sized check valve with a hose clamp. Tighten with a slotted screwdriver.
- 4). Using a hose clamp, connect the outlet end of the check valve to the discharge plumbing that moves the water away from the house. Tighten the clamp with the screwdriver.
- 5). Connect the positive or red electrical wire to the backup battery's positive terminal. Connect the negative or black wire to the negative terminal. The battery should be supported safely off the ground.
- 6). Connect the charger's positive and negative leads to the battery, red to red and black to black, making sure to pay attention to the correct polarity. The charger should be next to the battery without touching.
- 7). Plug the charger into a properly grounded electrical outlet.
- 8). Fill the pit with water to test the pump and verify there are no leaks at the connections.
