Hypokalemia

Definition:

An abnormally low amount of potassium in the blood, as detected by a simple blood test. The opposite of hyperkalemia. Hypokalemia has a number of potential causes, including:
  • Kidney failure
  • Respiratory problems
  • Hormone imbalance
  • Insufficient dietary intake
  • Medications
