How to Start Chinese Trees From Seed

    Starting Chinese Trees from Seed

    • 1). Place seeds in a bowl of water for 24 to 48 hours to germinate. Collect the seeds that sink to the bottom of the bowl. Discard the floating seeds.

    • 2). Pour well-draining potting soil into 2- to 3-inch pots until they are about 75 percent full. Make sure the containers have holes on the bottom to drain excess water.

    • 3). Plant the germinated seeds ¼- to ½-inch into the prepared potting soil. Placed any deeper than 1/2 of an inch and the seeds will have a difficult time sprouting.

    • 4). Water the germinated seeds enough to moisten the potting mix thoroughly, but not oversaturate it. Do not allow the water to completely dry between watering.

    • 5). Place the seeds in sunlight. Check with a horticultural professional to see how much sunlight your particular Chinese tree seeds will need.

    • 6). Transplant the seedlings into an 8-inch pot after they've developed their second set of leaves. Chinese trees can typically be transported into the ground in the spring.
