Journaling with scripture is like spending time with a best friend, reading intimate letters and discovering new things about you and your friend. Some books in the Bible are considered the love letters to you. Other books are like memoirs that share history. All the books together bring you different aspects of God your Creator, Jesus, and your advocate the Holy Spirit. It makes sense to say the more time you spend with scripture the stronger relationship you will have with God. Your relationship goes deeper and deeper. You understand new things and gain new perspective. It is not only about knowing God, it is also about you revealing yourself to God. It's about you being authentic, real, and vulnerable. You can take off the layers that hide your true self and start to shine. Your confidence builds because you know God is forgiving and loving. Scripture will present itself to you in many unexpected ways. It might be through a song, a book you are reading or a conversation that you are having.
By having God reflects back to you in scripture, you will learn new and exciting things about yourself that you have not thought about before. You will discover that your self-confidence will increase, which will pave the way to you contributing positively in society. You will consciously choose activities that are more life-giving to you, which will benefit the groups or people that you are spending your time with.
By spending time and building your relationship with God you will be developing the fruits of the Holy Spirit. You will become confident and loving and carry the spirit of hope in all your words and actions. Your inner-self will be strengthened and grounded in a way that surpasses knowledge.
"To be strengthened in your Inner self and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge" ~ Ephesians 3:16-21
Take some time to reflect on the passage above and start to draw the image that comes to mind. Take a few more minutes to write about the scripture and what it might mean for you personally in your life. What needs strengthening at this time in your life? How do you feel and experience God's love for you? How do you know God loves you even if you can't understand it?
By trusting that God loves you in all circumstances you will be able to identify the areas in your own life that you are proud of or areas that you are dissatisfied with. It is my hope that through journaling you will begin to accept yourself with more compassion and gently change your life to be more God centred and life giving.
Be authentic and enjoy life!
