- 1). Figure out how many nights you'll be staying away. Let's say it will be three nights.
- 2). For underwear and shirts, I really like to throw in the number of nights I'll be staying plus one for short trips. So for our example that's 4 pair of socks, underwear, etc.
- 3). Are you going to be near a pool or a beach? If so, throw in the flip flops and swim trunk/swimsuit.
- 4). With regards to pants I like to get an assortment for quick trips. For example: in the summer I might go for several pair of short pants plus one to sleep in. Jeans for when I don't want to wear the shorts and one nice pair of khaki pants. Really, the brown "casual dress" style of pants are GREAT traveling pants and it's good to have some nicer clothing if you might be going to an event that requires a bit nicer dress.
- 5). For shirts I again like a bit of variety. Most of the shirts I would pick are t-shirts because I wear them most of the time when I'm at home or just out and being casual. I do like to put in two polo style shirts for a bit nicer look so that I have a bit of variety. With both the pants and the shirts I still aim for a total of the number of nights stayed plus one. Sometimes I'll take as many as five shirts for a 3 night stay.
- 6). Roll up and pack your clothes in the overnight bag. To top things off toss in your toiletries such as deodorant, toothbrush and toothpaste, any medications you need, hairbrush, optionally a razor and any other things you need.
- 7). Zip up the bag and put it in the car to go!
