• St. John's University in New York offers a competitive award, the Catholic College/University Scholarship, to outstanding students with a major or minor in education from a Catholic college or university. The scholarship applies to full-time, new students in a master's degree program in the university's School of Education. The Cornaro Scholarship for Graduate Studies

• The National Catholic College Graduate Honor Society, Kappa Gamma Pi, awards the annual Cornaro Scholarship for Graduate Studies to one of its own members, setting the bar at a level of excellence. This highly competitive award goes to a recipient whose life exemplifies the society's motto of faith and service. Award considerations include leadership experience, high academic performance, volunteer work and career goals. Elena Lucrezia Cornaro Piscopia, the first woman ever to receive a university degree, lends her name and standard of excellence to the scholarship. She became a doctor of philosophy in 1678, receiving her degree from the University of Padua, Italy. In 2011, the value of the Cornaro Scholarship was $3,000.
  
  

The Catholic University of America Scholarships

• The U.S. Catholic bishops established The Catholic University of America in 1887. It is the national university of the Roman Catholic Church in the U.S., located north of Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. The University awards a number of graduate scholarships to students who excel academically. The most outstanding students receive nominations for these awards from chairs and deans. For example, the Knights of Columbus Scholarship/Fellowship offers full tuition plus a living stipend for full-time lay students in all university programs but law. Students whose goals include service to the Church for two years following graduation are eligible for the C. St. Vincent Pallotti Fellowship, a competitive, full-tuition award. Full-tuition doctoral scholarships require a strong undergraduate record and cumulative verbal and quantitative scores of 1,300 or higher.
  
  

Boston College Doctoral Diversity Fellowship

• Boston College's Lynch School of Education offers a Doctoral Diversity Fellowship to particularly outstanding doctoral students who are from underrepresented groups in their fields of study. Available on a renewable basis of between three and five years, these awards provide full tuition and stipends valued at about $19,500 in 2011. Renewal assumes continued academic excellence. Nominations for these awards come from faculty members at the point of admission.
