What Is the Behavior of a Cat in Heat?

    Vocalization

    • Your cat will be much more vocal. She will produce long, loud howls to call attention to male cats that may be around.

    Frequent Urination

    • To let males know she is in heat, a female cat will spray urine on objects. She will also urinate more frequently. The urine will smell much stronger than normal.

    Restlessness

    • She may be more active than normal and you may notice her rolling around.

    Increased Affection

    • Your cat will be much more affectionate than normal. She will want excessive petting and you will find her rubbing her rear, neck and head against objects, other animals and people.

    Change in Posture

    • A female in estrus will usually carry her tail to the side and she can exhibit a low, treading motion with her hind legs. She will hold her tail erect when she sees a male.
