How to save money, save energy, and stay comfortable? This is a difficult questions which can be answered very easily at times. Most of us think that the only way of lowering our energy bills is to not use it much and reduce the use of electrical appliances as much as possible but here in this articles I am going to discuss the ways we can reduce the utility bills without compromising on our comfort levels.

Heating and Cooling Tips 
  • Insulation is the key, keep your attic properly insulated. This will surely bring down your utility bills without compromising on the comfort of having properly heated/cooled home.
  • One should not keep changing the levels of cooling in the room too much instead a good strategy is to keep the temperature at constant levels. A good spot is between 78 and 79 degrees F.
  • We should not forget the utility of fans in bringing down the overall energy biils significantly. During summers fans should be used along with air-conditioning to make it more comfortable as well as reducing the utility costs.
  • Keep heating to a minimum by using heat for the area in use only. This avoids wasting energy to warm areas not in use.
  • Look for smalls crackd and openings in your house and effectively seal them immediately. This will bring down the energy consumption.
  • Air condition's filters should be cleaned or replaced regularly.
  • Weather-strip windows and doors.

Thermostat Tips
  • Thermostat should be set according to the weather whn you leave the house.
  • Programmable thermostats are great money savers , they help in saving money by reducing electricity consumption.

Tips for Saving Electricity 
  • Always turn off lights when not in use.
  • Slowly switch to energy-saving bulbs. They may cost a bit more but it will be worth it in savings.
  • Use a toaster oven whenever possible.
  • Stick to using the stove top in place of the regular oven.
  • If possible, use your microwave instead of the regular oven.
  • Turn off the oven 10 minutes before removing food. This gives you a few extra minutes of free electricity.
  • Avoid wasting money by over-drying your clothes. Make sure your dryer has a sensor that automatically turns off the machine when your clothes are done.

 

By applying simple energy saving tips like using fans, sealing cracks around your home, and switching to energy-saving bulbs, you will increase your buying power instead of throwing your money out the window.
